Also referred to as "Walkaround" or "Strolling" magic, mingling magic is the most interactive performance style and Michael's most requested service.
What mingling magic looks like
Michael will walk around the room, performing close-up magic for small groups at a time. Rather than a formal show, Michael is performing concurrently with the event. This style of magic is by its nature very conversational and casual. Michael will attend the event, wandering the room, then approach a guest or group of guests, introduce himself, and provide some personal entertainment just for them.
Mingling magic is the format that fits any room where guests are already standing, drinking, eating, and talking. Michael moves through the event performing personal sleight of hand for small groups at a time, turning a cocktail hour or reception into the part of the night people retell on the drive home.
The tricks are specifically chosen to be amazing and to get multiple guests involved and interacting with each other. This lets the magic serve a dual purpose: entertainment and an ice-breaker. When Michael moves on, that group will have something to talk about besides sports and the weather.
European-style close-up: a specialty variant
For events where guests are circulating and there is no obvious seated portion (a cocktail hour, a banquet, a wedding reception), Michael also offers a specialty format inspired by his work as part of the cast of The Magician's Table: European-style close-up magic.
Instead of walking the room mingling-style, Michael sets up a dedicated table off to the side of the main event. Groups of about 10 to 15 guests come to the table for an intimate 15-minute formal show, then return to the rest of the event. The next group rotates in. Guests get a prepared performance rather than a passing routine, and the rest of the event continues running on its own schedule. The format is elevated, intentional, and easy to drop into a reception that is already in motion.
The events where mingling magic fits
This is the format Michael books most often, and for good reason. It works anywhere there is a stretch of time when guests are circulating instead of seated:
- Cocktail hours and receptions at corporate events, weddings, and fundraisers
- Holiday parties and company celebrations where the room is mingling before or after a sit-down portion
- Banquets and galas
- Client appreciation events and conference welcome receptions
- Open-house style private parties in homes, restaurants, and event venues
Mingling magic also pairs beautifully with a longer event arc. Many corporate clients book Michael for the cocktail hour before a dinner program. Many wedding couples book the cocktail-hour mingling format and then add a short private close-up performance for the bridal party.
How long Michael performs
Most mingling-magic bookings run 1 to 2 hours, which is the typical length of a cocktail hour or banquet reception. The format is flexible, though. Michael has performed mingling magic for as little as 45 minutes (the lower end he generally recommends) and as long as several hours, with short breaks built in for runs over two hours.
Group size and venue requirements
Mingling magic scales naturally with the room. Whether the cocktail hour has 30 guests or 600, Michael adapts his coverage so as many people as possible get a personal performance. Throughout the event, Michael may perform for 1 or 2 people at a time or he may be with a group of a dozen or more. Often Michael starts with a small group that grows as people come over to see the magic.
Venue requirements are light. There is no stage, no sound system, no projector, and no special setup. Michael just needs space to walk and a room where guests are already gathered. After booking, he provides a rider that confirms anything specific to the venue.
Customizing mingling magic for your event
Every event has people in the room who matter more than others. The CEO making a quarter-end announcement. The bride and groom. The retiring partner. The VIP donor. Michael takes a quick brief before the event, and those people get extra attention. Michael will save his best, "one time only" trick for them. Some clients ask Michael to incorporate a product, theme, or running joke into a routine; that kind of customization is usually possible and best discussed on the booking call.
Michael's material is also clean by design, so your guests can have fun without you worrying about a call from HR the next day.
Why book Michael for mingling magic in North Carolina
Michael offers an experience that you cannot get anywhere else.
Michael is a multi-award-winning entertainer, and in 2025 he represented the United States at the FISM World Championship of Magic in Turin, Italy, and won the title of Most Original Act. FISM is often called "the Olympics of Magic," and the Most Original Act category honors creativity at the highest level the art form recognizes. It is a credential most magicians never come close to.
He is also an International Brotherhood of Magicians Close-Up Champion (with the People's Choice award the same year), a Brad Jacobs People's Choice recipient, and he has been awarded a "Masters of Magic" degree from the prestigious invite-only 4F Convention.
Michael's work has also been featured on The CW's Masters of Illusion nationally and on Charlotte Today (WCNC) locally. He is a member of the cast of The Magician's Table (the London-originated magic-theater show, now touring nationwide). And he has over 300 five-star Google reviews from corporate planners, event coordinators, wedding couples, and private hosts across North Carolina and beyond singing his praises.

Other ways Michael can perform at your event
If mingling magic is not quite the right shape for your event, Michael also offers a stage show (theatrical magic and mentalism for larger seated audiences) and a formal close-up show (a structured set for a smaller seated group around a table). For events where guests are circulating but you still want a more intentional show experience, ask about European-style close-up magic, a specialty format inspired by The Magician's Table.
